This Week at Merit Woods – November 9–15, 2026: Keep medicines up and away
Seasonal tip: Keep medicines up and away
The CDC reminds us that children are curious, and in less than a minute they can get into things that could hurt them. Put medicines, vitamins and other supplements, including gummies, away every time.
Pick a storage place children can't reach or see. Never leave medicine out on a kitchen counter or at a family member's bedside.
Always relock the safety cap. If it turns, twist until you hear the click or can't twist anymore. Even with safety caps, children may be able to open them.
Teach children what medicine is and why a trusted adult must give it to them. Never call medicine candy.
Ask visitors to keep purses, coats and bags with medicine in them up and away and out of sight.
Save the Poison Help number, 800-222-1222, in your home and cell phones. Call your poison control center if you think your child might have gotten into a medicine or supplement.
